Mason Grant & The Environment

Our environment and the creatures we share it with are extremely important. We’re lucky to live between Thetford Forest, the largest lowland pine forest in Britain, and the North Norfolk Coast, recording 10,000 species since 1980 alone. You can’t live in this part of the world and not feel you want to ‘do your bit’ to ensure it thrives. We have looked at numerous sustainability schemes designed for small businesses. In complete honesty, a lot seemed more like box-ticking exercises or marketing gimmicks, all having additional costs that would be passed onto the customer.

How do Mason Grant do their bit?

Well, when we launched our initial wax melt collection, our first decision was to stay away from plastic packaging; we knew from the outset that wherever possible plastic was a no for us. Our first task was to find a local manufacturer for our wax melt packaging. We have worked closely with them over several months to design something we think is different, functional and minimises impact on the environment. When it comes to ordering we will always order in quantities that reduce deliveries where possible. As we introduce more products to our range we continue to look at the most eco-conscious way to do so.

We use UK suppliers for our fragrance oils and wax. Our unique and re-usable Mason Grant wax melt moulds are produced by a small business based in Essex. Our products don’t include decorative additives i.e. gems, glitter, mica powder or dyes. Currently, suppliers send these extras out in plastic packaging and the pros don’t outweigh the cons for us. We will occasionally use dried botanicals in some of our products but these are sourced from our own country garden in Norfolk.

What about all the other bits a business needs? Can we avoid purchasing equipment or components manufactured overseas? No, and if everyone is honest, not many businesses can. What we can do is make informed purchases, and, where possible make sure the company we buy from are doing their bit too.

Our Promise

Mason Grant promises to actively reduce, re-use and recycle as much as we can. We will strive to work with other businesses that share our ethos. To support local environmental initiatives wherever possible and to continue to support a cause close to our hearts, Colchester Zoo.
