Wax melts have become a popular and versatile way to add delightful fragrances to our living spaces. However, achieving the most from your wax melts involves more than just melting them. At Mason Grant, we want you to enjoy the full potential of our products, and to help you achieve that, here are seven essential tips for maximising your wax melt experience.
Tealight Size Matters: The size of your tealight can significantly impact the longevity of your wax melts. Opt for a 4-hour tealight, as anything larger may burn too hot and too fast, releasing the fragrance too quickly. This can create the illusion that your wax melts don’t last as long as they should. Choosing the right tealight size ensures a slower and more consistent melt, allowing you to savour the fragrance for an extended period. We do not recommend using 8 hour or multiple tealights.
Check Your Burner Size: The size of your burner plays a crucial role in the efficiency of melting your wax. A tall burner may have a larger gap between the flame and the tealight bowl, leading to heat loss and inadequate wax melting. On the other hand, a small burner with a flame too close may cause the wax to heat too quickly. Be mindful not to use an “Oil Burner”, these generally sit lower to the tealight and can burn of scents too fast. Find the right balance for optimal performance and fragrance release.
Keep Your Burner Clean: Maintain a true and unaltered scent by cleaning your burner each time you switch to a new fragrance. Residual scents from previous melts can mix with the new one, affecting the intended fragrance. A clean burner ensures that you experience the authentic aroma of each wax melt. As tempting as it may be to follow tips of putting your burner in the freezer to remove used wax, please don’t. Your burners are designed to get hot, exposing them to freezing temperatures can cause cracks in the glaze and undermine the safety of your burner. We recommend warming up the used wax and placing a couple of cotton wool balls in the dish to soak up the wax – in our home we then use these as firelighters.

Timing is Everything: The duration your burner is lit directly affects the fragrance. Burning a wax melt for four hours over several days can yield multiple days of enjoyable fragrance. Conversely, burning continuously from morning to evening may give the impression of a faster loss of fragrance. Experiment with burn times to find the balance that suits your preferences. Remember, Mason Grant’s round wax melts can be snapped in half for use in smaller rooms or if you prefer a softer scent.
Mindful Placement: Be strategic in where you place your burner. If positioned near a window, cold outside air can interfere with the wax melting process. Additionally, consider the size of the room – larger rooms may have a more subtle fragrance, while smaller rooms concentrate the scent more intensely. Experiment with burner placement to find the sweet spot for the desired fragrance strength. Always ensure your burner is placed on a heatproof surface and out of reach of children and animals.
Change Up Your Scents: Avoid going “nose blind” by regularly changing the scents you use. Much like wearing the same perfume every day, other people will notice it but you may become accustomed to the fragrance and struggle to detect it yourself. Mixing up your favourite scents keeps them fresh and noticeable, ensuring you can appreciate each one to the fullest.
Quality Melts: Make sure you buy your melts from a business that is invested in using quality waxes and oils and takes time in development. Suppliers of fragrance oils sell their oils at varying levels of potency, at Mason Grant we put each oil through extensive trials and testing before releasing into our product lines. Prior to release our samples are sent out to our testers with an extensive review process to ensure we’re maximising your wax melt experience. Our melts aren’t the cheapest on the market and that is simply because we don’t use the cheapest ingredients.
